A Diagnosis..

As I'm easing back into blogging more frequently I wanted to jump on today to document last nights shenanigans.

While at a friends house yesterday making soaps, melts and room sprays I was asked by the Footscray Hospital to come in for a Sleep study.

With only three hours to get to the hospital, I hesitated, but ended up agreeing.

Two years ago I was told while sharing a room with my co-worker, a community health nurse, that I had sleep apnea and that I should go to the doctor.

For two years I have struggled keeping up with the world around me.

Every morning, I struggled out of bed, so so tired and exhausted before my day even began.

By 3pm each day I just wanted to go back to bed.

But it was my son that gave me the final push in the end.

I was asleep one night and he came in and woke me up scared that I had stopped breathing.

He would stand at my door worried and when I'd wake up he was concerned and one morning started crying at the thought of me not waking up.

I had to ease his mind so I took the initial step and made an appointment with the doctor.

I was referred to a sleep specialist and 3 months later, I was now in a hospital bed about to be hooked up to monitors which test my breathing, how much rest I'm getting and movement.

This was me..

Halfway through the night, I got up to go to the toilet and had to take the monitor with me.

When I returned to my room, I was then required to wear the sleep apnea mask for the rest of the night.

I got the giggles trying the mask on, I imagined my kids laughing at me and as I laughed the air blew up and into my eyes making me laugh even more.

Once the mask was on I struggled a little to get back to sleep, but eventually closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Let me tell you, from 2pm until 6.30am I did not wake up!

I had the best quality of sleep I've had in two years and was so full of energy today.

The Sleep Experts at the Hospital diagnosed me with Severe Sleep Apnea.

I knew I had it, I'm glad it's been diagnosed and am excited to get a sleep apnea machine to help me get a better quality of sleep.

To anyone needing to get tested my advice would be to do it. Yes, it all looks very scary but when you’re lucky to get 15 minutes of deep sleep within a three day period like I was, it’ll be worth the rest you’ll get afterwards.

Trust!
