Our Isolation Experience

On Friday the 16th of July an email was sent to me from the high school saying that Jie was recorded on cctv at a tier 1 exposure site and that our family immediately get tested and isolate.

On the 13th of July, Jie went to BP at lunchtime to buy a drink for his mate within the same 1/2 hour that a Covid positive community member was there.

As directed, that night David, the kids and I got tested and called our workplaces and schools to let them know we’d be in isolation.

We also notified the places we’d been to be on alert in case we were positive.

The next day, all of our results were negative.

We were told to isolate at home and we would ge tested again on the 13th day.

We kept ourselves busy with FaceTimes and phone calls to close friends and family, games, music, cooking, cleaning, movies and ordering things online.

On the 11th day an authorised officer with two army reserves attended our home to view we were all isolating.

On the 13th day it was my birthday and while it was pretty shitty having to be able to do absolutely not-a-thing for my birthday, when we went to get our day 13 covid test the ladies at the testing site sang happy birthday to me! It was a truly touching/unforgettable moment.

On Day 14 we got our results back but had to wait until day 16 for our clearances to enter society again.

The kids went back to school and we could finally go back to work!

Of this whole experience, I enjoyed the fact that while the world didn’t stop, our world did. No commitments, no schedule, no routine and all rules went out the window. It was nice just spending time as a family without the distractions of life.
