Recently I bought a new segment to my blog.
Mama-Daughter Mondays
At the moment Nevaeh, my 15 year old daughter and I both have Mondays off so I've decided that we spend this day together and document it here on the blog.
Today we spent the day together starting with a drive to KIRRIP Aboriginal Corporation.
Even though it was my day off today, VACCA in partnership with KIRRIP put on a Free Ballgown day for mob whom havent yet found something to wear to the upcoming NAIDOC Ball on the 20th of July.
A few new community members were a bit shy to go alone so I promised to meet them there.
Nevaeh loves spending time at KIRRIP. She enjoys being around the elders and always shows them respect.
I love seeing this side of her.
We also called Em, a former worker at KIRRIP whom now resides in WA.
She was the Youth Worker there for a while and Nevaeh loved and looked up to her so much! She really did bring out the best in her.
After everyone had left, we met a friend Sarah at her place in Melton as she has a gift for me in Celebration of NAIDOC Week.
A new sticker for my Car.
I have a few extras I'll be giving out to community this week.
Here is is here..
Before heading home Nevaeh and I stopped into the library to add our hand to the NAIDOC Hand display our community is doing in celebration of NAIDOC Week.
We also did a NAIDOC Gumleaf Wreath together which was cool.
Nevaeh borrowed some books while I chatted to some people about my culture and life.
The titles she borrowed were:
Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray by Anita Heiss
Power by Kemi Nekvapil
Without Merit by Colleen Hoover
& Tiddas by Anita Heiss
Until next Monday, that's our Mama-Daughter Day done for another week!
Singing in the car
Time spent with elders
New clothes and shoes
New books borrowed
And a FaceTime with Em!
Todays was a good day!
